To accommodate a growing family, the owners of a 1930’s-era English Tudor cottage added a significant expansion on a site with dramatic change in elevation. The addition included a new kitchen, family room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry room.

Restoration of the Nelson-Simmons-Trippe house, a circa 1829 vernacular log cabin structure in the Piedmont region of Georgia. The original two story “dog trot” cabin was moved from its original site on the Old Federal Road in Jasper, Georgia and rebuilt. The new site for the structure was determined to be a large densely wooded, remote tract, approximately 2 miles from the original location of the historic home. Original logs hand-hewn by Cherokee Indians were numbered, cataloged, and rebuilt. The field stone chimneys were reconstructed, and include pieces of broken 200 year old tombstones (or cast-offs), and other relics.

The client asked for an addition to the log cabin that included a master bedroom and bathroom, an open custom kitchen, and a rustic staircase. Other spaces include a music room, and guest bedroom suite. Additionally, a three car garage and large deck was built to overlook the mountain views.

Reclaimed and recycled barn-wood was used as finish material inside the house, including all stair components, paneling for music room and bathroom walls, fireplace mantles, interior door trim, and ceilings. Antique interior doors and reclaimed period hardware such as knobs and hinges were also used to enhance the mountain cabin feel.

The design incorporates many sustainable/green features, such as geothermal earth loop, high “R” value insulation (icynene and cellulose), low-flow toilets, composting area for garden and a water reclamation system.

An extensive renovation of a 1970′s era ranch included raising the roof to allow for 10 foot high ceilings, expanding the front porch to create a more welcoming entrance, and pulling the front rooms at each end of the house forward to provide more interior space and depth to the façade. The back porch footprint was absorbed into an enlarged family room, which was enhanced with a vaulted ceiling and floor-to-ceiling, steel-framed window wall overlooking the back yard.

To replace a former Sears kit house, the owners opted for a cedar shingle-and-stone design to fit on the footprint of the existing foundation. This spacious, five-bedroom cottage sits comfortably on an elevated lot without looming over the street or neighboring homes. Subsequent additions included the construction of a new garage with matching shingle exterior, and a stone front porch that fits seamlessly into the original construction.

Inspired by the “raised cottage” style of coastal Louisiana and Mississippi, this new 6,500-square foot, single-family home is fronted with a deep porch that blends traditional applications of wood and brick. Inside, the floor plan reflects the best of old and new to serve the needs of a family of five.
The lower level patio and porches open to scenic vistas of a fully wooded backyard that frames 2+ acre lot. The children’s bedrooms are built into the slope of the hipped roof on the second floor, creating a sense of coziness and the feel of a treehouse.

Remodel of an over 6000 square foot, mid-century modern split-level home in prominent Northwood neighborhood of Dallas, Texas.

Overall design intent was to produce family friendly rooms, with a multi-function kitchen as the basis for the design.

Being the “center”, the kitchen redesign became the crucible for this families daily functions, eating, school-work, parties, all happen in these spaces.

Project also includes breakfast nook, special vaulted ceiling design in major rooms of house, and master suite redesign. New master suite, includes vaulted ceiling, space saving closets, and marble shower/tub in master bathroom.

The existing house with its low roof line and horizontal stature demanded modern, clean lines, with minimal adornment.

To transform a 1950s-era brick ranch for a 21st-century family, this renovation includes the addition of a master suite, an expanded kitchen and keeping room, and a screened porch across the back. The enlarged front porch connects a new two-car garage and an existing bedroom to frame a new courtyard-style entrance.

Multi-year project consisting of complex hospitality design on 5 acre site, including main lodge building remodel and six smaller cabin remodels. All buildings were stripped to raw concrete block frames and rebuilt. New design was to be North Carolina rustic, evoking an old lodge feel. The main lodge building has two floors of Brazilian Ipe wood decking, and four luxury suites on the second floor. Interior rooms were fitted with travertine floors in the bathrooms, granite counter-tops, and corresponding antique furniture for the rooms. Smaller cabin buildings range from bedrooms with en-suite bath to luxury suites with attached screen porches.

Construction administration included coordination of multiple general contractors, as well as review and scheduling of structural, mechanical, and landscape architecture disciplines.
